Fight for what could be…

But what if I didn’t have to live in my past? What if there were something better, much, much better? I pondered this question for some time. My past held me in chains, locked up with no hope of escape. To be completely honest, I still live enslaved to the past from time to time.

My World as a 5th Grader

The world of a fifth grader is vivid and real…at least it was for me. I had an attention span of two minutes, an impulse to do about anything on a dare and that which motivated me was self-centered and shallow. I am pretty sure I was that boy you did not want your child sitting next to in class.

Invest in Today and Tomorrow

There is a well known Latin term “carpe diem” which means to “seize the day.” It is used to urge someone to make the most of the present time and give little thought to the future. Enjoy the pleasures of the present without any concern for tomorrow. It is one option of how to view one’s approach to life.

Where’s Your Focus?

Have you thought about it lately? Where is your focus? It can be elusive. We all have numerous things bombarding for our attention in life. Focus – the center of interest or activity, or directed attention. Another definition that struck me: (of a person or their eyes) adapt to the prevailing level of light and become able to see clearly. Think about that – adapt to the prevailing level of light and become able to see clearly.

Do you Wrestle with or “Rassle” with God?

“And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, ‘Let me go, for the day has broken.’ But Jacob said, ‘I will not let you go unless you bless me.’ And he said to him, ‘What is your name?’ And he said, “Jacob.” Then he said, ‘Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.’” – Genesis 32:24-28 ESV

Reveal what is not…

I was the youngest in the room. This meant I had the least real-world experience. My eyes darted hither and yon wondering what the others thought about me.

Fame and Fortune

Most of us have heard this phrase “fame and fortune” all of our lives. It is characterized as the maximum accomplishment goal to be sought in this earthly existence. Many are those who are disappointed by the road to desired fame and those who seek and/or obtain fortune but then find that there is no great fulfillment in these.

Rotten or Good Fruit

Sweet, juicy fruit is refreshing, tasty and satisfying. However, I’m so disappointed when I open up an orange and it is dry and tasteless. Or, when I expectantly cut into a cantaloupe and find out it is hard and almost bitter. So disappointing. I was anticipating a sweet, juicy cantaloupe – instead, I wasted my money.

Honor what is…

“So, tell me your story.” Five little words were spoken and panic stung my heart. My mind was racing. Should I be honest about everything? Should I sugarcoat the bad decisions I’ve made? What if he decides I’m not good enough? How I responded to those five little words could alter the course of my life. I did not want to make a mistake.
